Guidelines

Generally we can say:

Students who are enrolled at one of the following Cologne universities and interns who are enrolled at a university outside Cologne and are doing a study-related internship in Cologne are entitled to live here:

– University of Cologne

– Cologne University of Technology (locations: Deutz, Ubierring, Gummersbach and Leverkusen)

– German Sports University Cologne

– Academy of Media Arts Cologne

– Catholic University NRW, Department Cologne

– Cologne University of Music and Dance

– Cologne Business School

There is no legal entitlement to the provision of a place of residence by the Kölner Studierendenwerk.

Any rooms that become vacant will be preferentially allocated to the following groups of people, irrespective of the order in which the application is received:

1. handicapped students

2. students with children

3. participants in exchange programmes and scholarship holders

4. first-year students (new at the university)

5. students whose place of residence is outside the greater Cologne area

6. students who receive BAföG or similar

The Studierendenwerk reserves the right to select applicants for the allocation of places on a case-by-case basis in order to ensure the creation and maintenance of socially stable resident structures and balanced settlement structures as well as balanced economic, social and cultural conditions. This can lead to deviations from the award criteria listed above when applications are considered.

The complete award guidelines can be found here as PDF files: Procurement guidelines
